The old traditions of red sky, cows lying down etc also hold well !

• The full moon will generally coincide with high pressure and good weather.

• When you look out to sea or across the headlands and the islands seem very clear or close then rain is close.

• When the wind veers from the Southwest to the Northwest and remains in strength then rain again is close. If the wind is strong and veers then the swell will increase as well as the surf.

• An easterly wind brings fine weather, cold in winter warm in summer with little rain.

• Early fox gloves on the hedgerows will bring a fine May and June and the crawfish can be caught early in the lobster pots.

• If the Jays ( carrion bird) move into numbers into the area early in November a hard winter is to be expected.

• Late Mackerel and early herring have no correlation with weather ( despite long held belief)

• It always blows hard when we are broke and people want to board our boats !!!
